Week 52

Sunday, September 21, 2014

Today, we went to Grant's Farm in St. Louis.  Essentially, it is a hobby zoo that Ulysses Grant built.  They have all sorts of animals, ranging from elephants to kangaroos to lemurs, that you can get ridiculously close to.  PJ's favorite animal exhibit was feeding the baby goats, who were quite the bottle hogs (top picture).  We then went to the Clydesdale farm on the property.  This is where all the Budweiser Clydesdales are raised and trained from 6 months to 5 years old.  We got a behind the scenes tour and got to meet a retired gelding that was used as a hitch horse on one of the Budweiser wagons (middle picture).  We finished the day by stopping at the St. Louis Botanical Gardens.  We got there about two hours before it closed so we had to do a rush through.  The place was HUGE!  It was really pretty, and we got to feed monster sized coy fish.  We even had a nice statue of George Washington take a picture for us (bottom picture). The picture ended up being a bit crooked, but I like the artsy look of it.

Monday was my actual research day. I got some extra reagent on my hands, and it turned them blue.  Luckily, the blue goes away with time. But, until then, I got to annoy PJ by singing "I'm blue ba da dee da, I'd die if I was green."

Tuesday, September 23, 2014
Missouri has some of the prettiest sunrises and sunsets.

Wednesday, September 24, 2014

On the way back to Lexington, we stopped at the Gateway Arch.  It's massive.  We also decided to venture to the top (I had no idea you could go inside of it).  To get to the top, you have to ride up in these little pods that look like something out of Xenon.  The pods are supposed to hold 5 people, but luckily there was just two of us in ours.  The view from the top was awesome. You could see about 5 miles in every direction.

Thursday, September 25, 2014
Patty really missed us while we were gone.  He was so desperate for attention that he let me put milk tabs on his feet as bracelets.  The sad part is that he didn't really seem to mind them too much.

Friday, September 26, 2014
Hopefully, the third fish is the charm!  On Thursday night, we cleaned out Sebastian's tank, and the fish had a minor freak out session but seemed to have recovered.  But, on Friday morning, PJ discovered the fish sticking out of Sebastian's mouth...so needless to say, the fish died and Sebastian ate him.  So, we bought another $1 fish...hopefully, this one lasts longer than the last two!

Milk and Oreos is my reward for a stressful two weeks being over!!
Week 51

Sunday, September 14, 2014

Rachel brought me garden tomatoes!! I think I ate almost all of them in one sitting.

  Monday, September 15, 2014
There are few things better than a perfectly clean car.  Roland got a much needed deluxe treatment with a scrub inside and out!

Tuesday, September 16, 2014
Turns out Patty and I are both fans of passing out for two hours on a Tuesday.  And we nap in creepily similar positions.

Wednesday, September 17, 2014
Good luck from the praying mantis on PJ's car!

Wahooo!!

Friday, September 19, 2014

Whelp, I forgot to take a picture :(

Saturday, September 20, 2014

PJ and I drove to Missouri for my research project. On the drive there, we saw an UFO.  Then, we went to the St. Louis Zoo.  It was a really nice zoo (and a free!), but overrun with children.  Of course, my favorite exhibit at the zoo was the lemurs!

Week 50

Sunday, September 7, 2014
I woke up without a voice.  I expected it to come back throughout the day, but it only got worse. So, I spent majority of the day silent, which is weird and very hard to do.  I attempted to nurse myself back to health by drinking Sunny D and taking my temperature.  No fever for me!

  Monday, September 8, 2014

Today I woke up with pink eye and still no voice.  I went to the clinic and turns out I had a severe reaction to ragweed (apparently a very common thing in KY).  So, I spent majority of the day sitting on the couch.  Luckily, I got this card and present from Seven (and Vero) to make my day a little better!

Tuesday, September 9, 2014
Day 3 of no voice was spent outside enjoying the beautiful day!  Our new building has this nice patio and it is awesome to sit outside for lunch and homework.

Wednesday, September 10, 2014
Good news is I had a voice!! Bad news is I had to make about 40 phone calls for research after one of our patients unexpectedly pulled out of the study.  By the end of the day, I was back to sounding like a grouchy man.

Thursday, September 11, 2014
I finally finished my first puzzle.  I decided to glue it together and hang it up since our dining room table needed a picture.  It was actually quite the process to glue it together, but once it dried, I hung it up.  I think it looks really good!

Friday, September 12, 2014

We finally got our family portrait with all of the animals (minus Sid for obvious reasons).  Sebastian was by far the best at posing.

Saturday, September 13, 2014
I got Patty his Halloween costume!! He's a dragon and surprisingly he loves wearing his costume.

 Week 49

Sunday, August 31, 2014
A quick trip to Indiana resulted in redoing the tile in my Uncle Bryan's and Aunt Sue's bathtub.  It was a good weekend visiting with family, and we got most of the bathtub done!

  Monday, September 1, 2014
Seeing my parents over the weekend means I got PJ's tshirt blanket from my mom.  Needless to say, he loves it.

Tuesday, September 2, 2014
I came home from class to find Patrick purring in the bathtub alone...he gets stranger everyday.

Wednesday, September 3, 2014
I made a pot pie a few weeks ago, froze it, and cooked it.  For some reason, the potatoes all turned black and tasted really bad.  I don't know what went wrong, but I'm really upset it had to be thrown away :(

Thursday, September 4, 2014
Research forced me out of bed early aka 6 am.  But, it was an iconic KY morning, complete with black fences, green pastures, and fog.  It was really something spectacular to see.

Friday, September 5, 2014
Patty alerted me to this tiny spider on the ceiling.  I took pitty on the poor spider and trapped him and put him outside instead of killing him.

Saturday, September 6, 2014
 It's Kentucky Wildcat Football season!!
Week 48

Sunday, August 24, 2014
Kentucky has some of the best thunderstorms.  And you can see them coming, which make them even better!

  Monday, August 25, 2014
I really think Sid invents problems to get out of riding.  Here he has some weird holes forming on the top of his hooves.

Tuesday, August 26, 2014
Patty thinks that we got a turtle and couch just so he can watch him while relaxing.

Wednesday, August 27, 2014
First day of classes came equipped with having to wait for the train as a pedestrian.  It's weird to have to stand in line with all of the cars until the train passes.

Thursday, August 28, 2014
Patty decided he needed to study for school, too.  He is also quite annoyed that I am bothering his work.

Friday, August 29, 2014
Another perk of research is getting to see treadmill testing for horses.  It's really cool to watch, but also kind of violent.

Saturday, August 30, 2014
 It was my little's birthday!
